How to Prepare for a Roof Installation

Replacing or repairing your roof? In order to help the project run as smoothly as possible, there are a few things we would recommend doing prior to your roof installation. Taking these simple steps before your roofers arrive can ensure the safety of your belongings, property, and family members.
  1. Take Valuable Items off Walls and Shelves: There is going to be quite a bit of pounding up top. This will cause the entire house to vibrate and shake. These vibrations can cause hanging or shelved items to fall. This is unavoidable. If you have anything on your walls or on shelves that are valuable or important to you it’s not a bad idea to remove them during your roof installation.

  2. Move Your Vehicles: Make sure your vehicles are not in the way of any of the roofer’s equipment and/or their path to and from the house. If you have a driveway your roofers will have a trailer parked there to remove debris. Also make sure your vehicles won’t be boxed in if you should need them during the roof install. If you have a vehicle in a garage for instance, it’s a good idea to park on the street while the roof is being installed.

  3. Move Lawn Items: If there are any items around the perimeter of the house that are in danger of being broken or damaged it’s a good idea to move them. For example, potted plants, benches, patio furniture, yard decorations etc.

  4. Find Access to Power Source: If you do not have an outlet on the outside of the home it would be good to either run an extension cord from inside or notify your contractor so that they can run a cord.

  5. Have a Plan for Children and Pets: Your home should be considered a construction site. There will be random nails, debris and various trash around the property and coming off the roof. This is unavoidable. If you have any children or pets it’s best to keep them inside during construction. Make sure to notify your roofers if you will have any need to let pets out for the bathroom or if you yourself need to make an exit.
